sustainable development goals in action

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) provide a global framework through 17 goals for building a more sustainable future. Bubble Paper aligns with these goals by focusing on the areas where our packaging solutions create the greatest impact.

Bubble Paper is headquartered in Piedmont, South Carolina in Greenville County, a community rooted in sustainability with goals to keep the integrity of its name.  The city published Sustainable GVL - a curated plan to implement sustainable practices with encouragement to the community and local businesses.

Each Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) will be explained on a global, local, and in-house scale.

SDG 11: sustainable cities

City participation is critical for climate change efforts.  The biggest challenge facing local government is managing municipal solid waste.  Waste disposal is constantly changing- especially at the local level. Is glass recyclable? Is it compostable? Education is important for determining where waste should be disposed and at Bubble Paper we make it easy.

In 2021, the Greenville City Council team introduced an open forum survey to narrow down a trajectory for the city's efforts.  The result, six categories similar to the SDG goals created by the United Nations: Built Environment, Climate and Energy, Air & Water, Transportation & Mobility, Goods & Services, and Community Engagement.

Our values align with Greenville City's commitment to sustainability.  Bubble Paper products were created with the entire lifecycle in mind.  Our products facilitate easy and responsible disposal of consumer packaging. We understand how terms like biodegradable and compostable can be misconstrued.  We recommend recycling all of our Bubble Paper Products to extend their life cycles. However, our Bubble Paper Wrap is 100% paper, meaning it is compostable.

SDG 9: industry, innovation, and infrastructure

Bubble Paper is committed to eliminating the harmful effects of plastic on the environment with our 100% recyclable product line.  On a global scale CO2 Emissions from fuel combustion and industrial processes reached 37.6 billion metric tons in 2024.  For perspective, that’s equivalent in mass to a fourth of Mount Everest.

Co2 emissions from fuel combustion and industrial processes are equal to a fourth of the mass of Mount Everest per year.

Page 9 of Sustainable GVL outlines long-term goals for lowering carbon emissions.  Current efforts involve: investing in solar panels, changing street lights to LED bulbs, and encouraging electric landscape equipment for city upkeep.

Bubble Paper Wrap is an innovative product with notable compact storage to save space in warehouse and transit.

SDG 12: responsible consumption & production

Sustainability is at the forefront of our company's mission statement.  We value working with companies that share our vision and promote greener alternatives.  European nations are familiar with bold policies that drive global action. Sustainability reports are becoming the norm in corporate structures- aimed to better the nation and keep up with local compliance.

Page 7 of Sustainable GVL outlines their encouragement of green standards in responsible production for new builds.  Integrating sustainability from the jump eliminates the need for renovations later and keeps Greenville modern.

Bubble Paper strives to maintain sustainable production processes on a daily basis. To reduce waste, undamaged excess paper is used for samples and testing. On a large scale, Bubble Paper offers high-volume customers their own sustainable production solution: Integrating Bubble Paper machinery directly into their facilities. This allows all parties to eliminate extra shipping and minimize their overall carbon footprint.

SDG 13: climate

Climate change has become a familiar term for many and a rising global concern.  Climate change is measured over long-term trends from variables that emit greenhouse gasses.  Power is the largest producer of greenhouse gas emissions in 2023 with Production and Industry not far behind.  Sustainability education has increased in school curriculum, corporate structures, and globally to eliminate the lower the effects on the planet.

At Bubble Paper our packaging is lightweight, compact, and efficient to ship, reducing transportation emissions. We also manufacture in-house, cutting out unnecessary shipping steps and further lowering carbon impact.

SDG 15: life on land

Forest trends are vital to life on land shaping ecosystems, supporting biodiversity, and critical for combating climate change.  In 2020, 31% of the world’s land was forests with global forest loss decelerating.  Notably, 90% of forest loss is a result of agricultural expansion.  Regionally, Asia, Europe, and North America have experienced forest growth.
