how to use bubble paper liners for cold chain shipping

When you're shipping frozen food, temperature-sensitive medical supplies, or even fine olive oil, your cold chain packaging needs to do more than just insulate—it needs to protect the planet, too. Bubble Paper Liners are recyclable thermal liners that help businesses maintain product integrity while cutting down on waste. Whether you're a meal kit brand, a biotech supplier, or a small-batch chocolatier, these liners offer a smarter and more sustainable way to ship cold items.

what are bubble paper liners

Bubble Paper Liners are recyclable thermal liners designed for cold chain shipping. They’re designed to maintain consistent internal temperatures inside a cold chain box—keeping your product fresh, safe, and protected from external conditions. Each kit includes two paneled liners: an “A liner” and a “B liner” that each cover three sides. Together, they form a six-side barrier around your product, fitting snugly inside a variety of box sizes.

Unlike traditional materials like expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam—which takes hundreds of years to decompose—Bubble Paper Liners are 100% curbside recyclable. They additionally serve as protective packaging, with Bubble Paper technology within the liner core.

bubble paper liner performance

In terms of thermal protection, Bubble Paper Liners are comparable in performance to many fiber-based or synthetic options, including EPS, cotton, jute, and cornstarch. They’re compatible with both gel ice packs and dry ice, so you can fine-tune your packaging depending on what you’re shipping.

Not only do they perform in transit, they’re also designed with shipping and warehousing in mind. Their compact, fold-flat design makes them easy to store and even easier to assemble.

cold shipping + cushioning

At the core of our liners is our Bubble Paper technology. The paper bubbles are formed in an alternating pattern to provide protective qualities comparable to traditional plastic bubble wrap. Not only are the liners for temperature-sensitive items, but for delicates as well.

how to assemble the liners

Each Bubble Paper Liner kit includes two panels:

  1. Insert the A liner into the bottom and sides of the box. It hugs the interior, creating a L-shaped barrier that covers the bottom, 1 side, and the top of the box.

  2. Insert the B liner in a U-shape (or triangle) to seal off the other three sides of the box. Ensure the panels are flush with the inside of the box.

  3. Place your payload (like frozen food, pharmaceuticals, or temperature-sensitive goods) inside.

  4. OPTIONAL! Add your cooling element—gel packs or dry ice—based on your product needs.

  5. Fold the top flap of the A liner over the B liner before closing your outer box. This creates a fully enclosed thermal shell.

who can use the liners

Bubble Paper Liners are ideal for businesses that care about performance and the planet. Common industries include:

  • Food & Beverage: shipping frozen meals, chocolates, cheeses, meal kits, or wine

  • Healthcare & Pharma: shipping medical samples, lab equipment, or pharmaceuticals

  • Pet Products: raw or refrigerated pet food brands that need reliable cold chain solutions

  • E-commerce Retailers: selling delicate items like ceramics, skincare, or olive oil

Whether you're fulfilling bulk orders in a warehouse or sending out limited-edition product drops, these recyclable thermal liners keep your product cool and your customers happy.

why choose bubble paper

Many cold chain packaging solutions are either bad for the planet or bad for your budget. Bubble Paper Liners are different:

  • Sustainable: curbside recyclable, made in the USA

  • Affordable: less expensive than other sustainable options like cotton or jute

  • Efficient: easy to store, quick to assemble

  • Reliable: high performance without the bulk or breakdown of traditional foams

  • Scalable: available in standard box sizes or customized for your needs

Plus, when you buy from Bubble Paper, you're supporting a small company that's built on doing things better—not just cheaper. We're committed to giving businesses a better alternative to EPS, without the greenwashing or the up-charge.
